Two members of the PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women completed their maximum five-year terms on March 29, 2024. During the March meeting in Kensington, Council members and staff presented a service award to Caroline MacRae that recognized her contributions to Council’s work throughout her term as Council member.

And recently, Advisory Council member Regina (Gina) Younker received her service award from Chairperson Serena Smith at the Council office. We will miss them both very much.

For more information about their work on the Council, please read the individual award text below:

Service Award – The PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women thanks Caroline MacRae:

Caroline MacRae of Summerside has served as a member of the PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women since 2019. In her time on the Advisory Council, Caroline shared expert policy insights on women’s and gender-diverse people’s health and connected social determinants of health with issues of poverty, gender-based violence, and caregiving. With knitting in hand, Caroline has been a focused listener at Council meetings. During her term, she contributed to Council’s Gender and COVID-19 project and recommendations, the 2022 Equality Report Card, and the development of the model for the 2026 Equality Report Card. She was an active participant in five Purple Ribbon Campaigns Against Violence and an annual supportive presence at PRIDE events, especially the parade.

Thank you, Caroline, for your intelligent, kind contributions to the PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women to advance the status of women in PEI.

Service Award – The PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women thanks Regina (Gina) Younker:

Gina Younker of Charlottetown has served as a member of the PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women since 2019. In her time on the Advisory Council, Gina connected the personal and the political, always keeping Council grounded in the real effects of gender discrimination on real people. She has welcomed learning about diversity and appreciating the intersectional realities and experiences of others. Gina was especially committed to Council’s work to eliminate poverty, support caregivers, and end gender-based violence. During her term, Gina contributed to Council’s Gender and COVID-19 project and recommendations, the 2022 Equality Report Card, and the development of the model for the 2026 Equality Report Card. She was an active participant in five Purple Ribbon Campaigns Against Violence. Gina also achieved and celebrated her Canadian citizenship during her term on Council.

Thank you, Gina, for your lived and living contributions to the PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women to advance the status of women in PEI.

And recently, Kiela Muirhead, the Advisory Council’s bookkeeper was also presented with an award for her 20+ years of service with the Council. Thank you Kiela!

PEIACSW Service Award
Kiela Muirhead
20+ Years of Service

Kiela Muirhead of Excel Accounting has served as the PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women’s bookkeeper since 2003. In more than 20 years of work, she has provided efficient, accurate, and dedicated service. In addition to being very good at her work, she has been friendly, supportive, flexible, patient, and kind. Her work has been consistently praised by auditors as meeting a very high standard. Working especially with Becky Tramley, she holds an important part of our institutional memory. Without support to manage our resources well and be responsible and accountable with our finances, the Advisory Council would not be able to effectively meet its mandate to advise government and educate the public on the issues that affect gender equality. We are so fortunate to have had Kiela contribute to our work these past two decades.

Thank you, Kiela, on behalf of the PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women, for your dedicated work to advance the status of women in PEI.
