Chairs Circle for Gender Equality Workshop on Nov 1 – “Bringing to Light Hidden Heritage”

October is Women’s History Month in Canada!

On Friday, November 1, 2024, celebrate hidden heritage in PEI with a day of FREE public events with the Chairs Circle for Gender Equality (CCGE),  PEI’s newest not-for-profit working to advance gender equality through educational initiatives.

REGISTRATION OPEN

From 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 1 join the Chairs Circle for Gender Equality at St. Paul’s Anglican Church Hall for workshops on “Bringing to Light Hidden Heritage.”

The workshop will explore ways to bring hidden histories to light. Using the model of the Black Women’s History Project that has been created for Island schools, the workshop will explore ways to deepen our understandings of heritage and present hidden histories for our communities. This is a workshop not to be missed, for educators and members of the public who want to share more diverse stories of our past.

Coffee available at 9:00, programming beginning at 9:30, using the Black Women’s History Project developed for PEI classrooms as a model for bringing hidden heritage to light.

In the afternoon, (1:00 p.m.), we will learn about the PEI Heritage Fair and the PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation’s work to develop an exhibit on Black Islanders’ history. All of these projects bring to light hidden histories from sources that have been kept by individuals and in communities with amazing stories to tell.

A light vegetarian lunch will be provided. Admission is free; spaces may be limited.
