Two members of the PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women completed their maximum five-year terms on January 23, 2023. During the January meeting in Charlottetown, Council members and staff presented a service award to outgoing Chairperson Cathy Rose that recognized her contributions to Council’s work throughout her term as Council member, Vice-Chairperson, and Chairperson.

And recently, Council’s Treasurer Chrissy MacPhail received her service award from Jane Ledwell at the Council office. We will miss them both very much.

For more information about their work on the Council, please read the individual award text below:

Service Award – The PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women thanks Cathy Rose:

Cathy Rose of Fortune has served on the PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women since 2018, appointed Vice-Chairperson from 2020-21 and Chairperson from 2021-23. Cathy has inspired Council colleagues and staff as a passionate and compassionate advocate for gender equality. Cathy’s vision for women’s economic security and self-sufficiency and her dedication to standing with survivors of violence have raised awareness and resulted in changes of action and understanding for countless Islanders. She has advocated strongly for resources for women’s organizations and especially for Council, and she revolutionized Council’s strategic planning processes, with an emphasis on valuing our time together and working effectively within our resources. She hosted the 2021 and 2022 Montreal Massacre Memorial Services with sincere solemnity. She contributed to two Equality Report Cards assessing government’s progress towards gender equality goals, capably leading the 2022 Report Card.

Thank you, Cathy, for your inspired leadership of the PEI Advisory Council on the Status of Women to advance the status of women in PEI.
