Earth Day graphicEarlier this week, April 22 marked Earth Day, so we looked back through the Advisory Council on the Status of Women archive to 2008, when the International Women’s Day “Together in Courage” committee honoured women leaders in environmental activism. Here’s the report from the time:

The 2008 “Leaders Among Us” event took place on the storm date, March 9, 2008, due to bad weather on March 8 in Charlottetown. “Leaders Among Us” recognized women champions of the environment. The evening’s guest speaker was Susan Howatt, National Water Campaigner with the Council of Canadians. The celebration included music from the Gaia Singers, a roundtable conversation among the Island environmental leaders, door prizes, and a reception. Valerie Docherty, Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, was one of the special guests who presented awards and introduced award recipients. The honorees are pictured below.
