Council members and staff of the Status of Women offer their sincere appreciation to the many people who contributed to the 2022 Purple Ribbon Campaign Against Violence, including the December 6th Montreal Massacre Memorial Service. We were so glad to be able to return to gathering in person, taking precautions with masking.
We are especially grateful to the family members of murdered PEI women who bravely came forward to light candles in their honour. We are also grateful to those who contributed their experiences, their voices, their traditions and their skills toward making the Memorial Service so special. Together we mourn and recommit to restoring community by providing hope to survivors, help to abusers, and healing, accountability, and equality for all.
Each year on December 6th, we remember and honour the women who have been murdered in PEI. We remember and honour the 14 women who died in Montreal in 1989. We remember and honour the thousands of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls across Canada. We remember and honour all who suffer gender-based violence.
