We had an auspicious day in Kensington yesterday! Advisory Council members Hsiao-Yu Liu and Barb McDowall accompanied Jane and me to the signing of a declaration to prevent gender-based violence in the Town of Kensington.

We marked the culmination of our “Motivated Municipalities” project with a media conference announcing the declaration and accompanying Community Action Plan that they created in consultation with the community of Kensington, and which the Councilors of the Town adopted. Kensington is the first municipality in PEI to commit publicly in this way to taking action to end gender-based violence. An extraordinary achievement led by Mayor Rowan Caseley and CAO Geoff Baker.

We were also very pleased that the new Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable Dr. Wassim Salamoun, took an interest and attended with his wife, her Honour Marie Salamoun-Dunne. The Lieutenant Governor stated during his installation that he has a specific interest in focusing of family violence prevention during his time in the position.
